Tom Young Athlete Ambassador
Tom grew up in Australia and has a big passion for all things sport. He talks to Sundried about training and racing.
Have you always been into sport?
Absolutely! I was born into a super sporty family and I've always been one of those people that play as much as I can – cricket, Aussie rules football, basketball, gymnastics, athletics, rugby and netball. I've always been a bit of a gym rat – starting with weightlifting and moving over to CrossFit. As I grew up in Australia, I've always been a big runner and swimmer.
How did you first get into cycling?
I've always used cycling as transport but since we moved into lockdown it became a big part of my fitness. Before I knew it I was cycling 350km a week!
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
It wasn't a race, but cycling from London to Edinburgh with my best mates and raising nearly £20k for charity definitely takes the cake! All in Sundried kit of course!
What is your proudest achievement?
Receiving a 5-star review for a comedy show I wrote and performed at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe.
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
I arrived at an open water swimming race in just my speedos – it was 12 degrees and everyone was in wetsuits.
How do you overcome setbacks?
Remember that everything eventually comes to an end.
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
You're not indestructible.
What are your goals?
To be the healthiest and happiest person I can be.
Who inspires you?
My parents. Also The Rock – he's the man.
Why work with Sundried?
High quality, affordable kit without an ego.
