Pete Clarke - Athlete Ambassador
Have you always been into sport?
Yes, my love of sport started early with rugby but ended in my late 20's having dislocated both shoulders on more than one occasion; very careless! I then took up distance running and completed a number of marathons over the years.
How did you first get into triathlon?
I took part in my first triathlon in 2011; the Tunbridge Wells Sprint Tri, with a mate of mine who was already a great swimmer and keen cyclist. I delivered a very sorry excuse for a 400m breast stroke swim and quite a pedestrian bike and run leg….nonetheless I'd caught the bug and was desperate to improve! It couldn't get much worse!
If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
Ironman Swansea 70.3 in 2022; the support from the locals and having my family present, made it really special.
What is your proudest achievement?
My first full distance race - The Outlaw - in 2021. I'd really messed up my nutrition and struggled from mile 10 onward on the marathon. I went to some dark places but stuck at it to finish in under 15 hours.
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
Yes! I messed up the run course during the Lakesman Full in 2022!
How do you overcome setbacks?
I'm quite fortunate having a positive disposition in general but I always try and keep perspective on things; including my races. During those really dark moments I'll remember that this is my choice and how many others don't get the opportunity to challenge themselves in this way and have pain/loss/sadness thrust upon them.
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
Get your nutrition right; practice, practice and practice again with the right sources of nutrition for you and your body.
What are your goals?
To compete in full distance triathlon for as long as I can.
Who inspires you?
My children. They teach me every day to be the best that I can be; whether that's as a parent or an age group triathlete. My eldest daughter is going from strength to strength with her racing and is a far better swimmer than I'll ever be!!
Why work with Sundried?
I am so excited to have an opportunity to support a growing and ethical sports clothing brand that considers the environment and its supply chain as much as the customers it serves. I'm genuinely humbled to be a part of the team.
