Kyle Bateman - Athlete Ambassador
Have you always been into sport?
From an early age I was always sporty. From play football from the early morning until it got dark to as a Junior representing my country in Rowing I loved just playing sport every minute I could.
How did you first get into triathlon?
My Duathlon career is one of losing touch and then finding the love for it again. Between at ages of 10-12 I was a really keen Triathlete being one of the Top Junior Triathletes in Berkshire in 1990-1992. I then rowed until the age of 22 before not getting back into competitive sport until after the birth of my daughter in 2012. After seeing the Olympic cycling I took up road cycling until during Covid lockdown I though I would get back into multi sport and took up Duathlon again at the ripe old age of 42. Is it a come back? Who knows??
If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
Has to be my one and only race since 1992. The Dorney Duathlon! I came 2nd in my Age Group.
What is your proudest achievement?
Has to be taking the Start line at the 2017 UCI Grand Fondo World Championship in Albi, France and pulling on that GB vest!
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
I have had a few crashes and been crashed into when I was feeling really strong, ending my race.
How do you overcome setbacks?
It's simple, I just keep going and looking forwards to my next goal. I never look back at defeat or setbacks. Even if I'm not feeling the motivation to get on the bike, I just get on and pedal. After a while it all goes away.
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
Even if you feel that you’ve given everything, at the end, there's always a bit more.
What are your goals?
In 2023 I want to represent GB in AG Duathlon Worlds and in the same year ride for GB in the AG Cycling Worlds both road and TT.
Who inspires you?
- My kids Ellis and Darcey
- Bradley Wiggins
- The Brownlee brothers
