Alex Worden - Athlete Ambassador
Have you always been into sport?
Yes I have, from a young age I've always played football through from juniors to adult. I had a few years playing basketball through college and outside of college, but with football and basketball clashing on both days I chose football.
How did you first get into triathlon?
Unfortunately a death in the family got me into it. I've always liked the idea of doing one, and when a family member passed, I decided to do one for charity to raise some money and awareness. Ever since that I've had the bug.
If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
The charity race I did. As it was during COVID the races where being cancelled and I wanted to get the race done. I set a rower up on my garden, cycled and ran around my local area.
- 2.5km row
- 20km bike
- 5km run.
It was the hottest day of the year in May 2020 and it was brutal. All the the best cause though.
What is your proudest achievement?
My proudest achievement is raising £5005 for charity doing my race, that meant a lot to me, and the charity were so so grateful. Also in a recent tri I've completed just seeing both my kids so happy and cheering me on made me really proud.
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
None that I can think of. I don't want many either!
How do you overcome setbacks?
Just got to think of the reason why I started doing triathlons in the first place. That spurs me on so so much
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
Don't be nervous, break it down and don't overthink or over complicate it. Remember it's just you vs you on the day and in training, don't judge or compare yourself against anyone else.
What are your goals?
Honestly, to reach the finish line each time. I'm hectic at work, working long hours, unsociable hours and work away from time to time. I have 2 young kids so it's hard fitting training in. The main goal is complete a full IronMan, and hopefully in 2024 do a 70.3. But for now, it's getting out and getting it done.
Who inspires you?
My family, I'd do anything to make them happy!
