Sarah Paterson - Athlete Ambassador
Have you always been into sport?
I have run since I could walk....constantly trying to keep up with my two older brothers. I didn't have a bike as a child and bought my first bike at the age of 48.
How did you first get into duathlon?
I read Louise Minchin's autobiography and was inspired to enter my first duathlon.
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
The World Age Group Duathlon Champs in Aviles in 2021. All the stars were aligned and I had "the perfect race," winning my age group.
What is your proudest achievement?
Watching my children grow up.
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
Not really, but I've had plenty of transition disasters!
How do you overcome setbacks?
I initially have a hissy fit.... then calm down and focus to think of ways to get round the setback. Where there's a will, there's a way.
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
Start younger! I love multisport and only wish I'd taken it up in my teens!
What are your goals?
To keep going....keep training....keep enjoying the process...
Who inspires you?
Oh LOADS of people, initially my mother who ran the London Marathon way back in 1985 when she was 45. It wasn't the thing to do....particularly for an overweight smoker. She had no background in sport. There weren't the training plans, internet or support in those days. But she just set to and ultimately ran sub 4 hours in her late 40s.
Why work with Sundried?
I genuinely love the look of the clothes - you can never have too many, right? I also love the ethos behind Sundried. It seems a very ethical company.
