Graham Robbins - Athlete Ambassador
Have you always been into sport?
I've always been into sport more predominantly swimming in my early years as I swam for a team from a young age and then went onto track events and rugby.
How did you first get into triathlon?
I believe it was a local Triathlon called the Southampton Twitch that had the added benefit of passing my house on the course twice so at least I didn't have to get used to the course!
If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
Would have to be the 2019 great South as that was the last one they did, it was especially good as the weather was perfect and very proud of my mother to have run it too which was the furthest she had ever run, she did amazing!
What is your proudest achievement?
It's between 2. One being part of the winning team for the Southampton biathlon of which I ran a leg for our running club Hardley Runners. The second would be the Southampton Marathon not because of a good performance but managing to finish after my knee blew up at mile 18 but still managed to finish resulting in a rather emotional ending!
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
Other than the previous Southampton Marathon where my knee decided it hated me I had a triathlon where I rode the last 5 miles of the bike leg on a puncture because like a complete fool I forgot to take a puncture repair kit.
How do you overcome setbacks?
Just accept that setbacks will happen they are inevitable and part of any training schedule you just have to adapt.
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
There's no set recipe or routine or set plan for success and if you feel a niggle going through the pain is not the answer listen to your body!
What are your goals?
My main aim is to compete for GB as an age group athlete also I'd like to complete a sub 3hr marathon.
Who inspires you?
To be honest a number of people the majority from my running club it's made up of all different age groups and abilities but the constant is the support you get from everyone and their achievements are so inspiring from completing their first 5k right up to ultras essentially they are group of legends!
Why work with Sundried?
I love their ethos in such a throw away society, to reuse materials and still produce high quality clothing is a huge draw as there are far to many cheap items of sports clothing that fall apart.
