Harry Craven Athlete Ambassador
Harry started as a runner but soon discovered a passion for triathlon. He talks about training and racing.
Have you always been into sport?
No, originally I was a runner for 2 years before stepping into triathlon.
What made you decide to enter the world of triathlon?
From my running background I met many amazing and like-minded people, after around 1 year of running I met a new triathlon group in my area and I knew these were my kind of people which over time got me on the bike and in the pool, from there I had to enter a triathlon.
What’s been your favourite race to date and why?
My favourite race would have to be Lakesman Middle Distance Triathlon. Lakesman is in the Lake District and the reason it’s such a great race is the people who race and the people who support, this race is also where I qualified for the Team GB age group team and it was also my first ever triathlon.
What’s your proudest achievement?
My proudest achievement would have to be qualifying for Team GB to compete at the ETU middle distance championships.
Have you ever had any racing disasters/your toughest race yet?
My toughest race would have to be the Firelighter Ultramarathon, this ultramarathon in on the coastal path of Anglesey, North Wales. Following the coastal path for 36 miles on an extremely hot day was a big challenge, but the finish line is always worth it.
How do you overcome setbacks?
Easy, remind yourself that consistency always wins. Be patient, be positive.
What advice do you wish you’d been given before you started competing?
Luckily for me I had a lot of support and advice, but I wish I'd had more advice on nutrition and understanding how the body works, feeding yourself to help yourself.
What are your goals for 2020?
I have a few:
- Finish Manchester marathon in under 3 hours
- Finish Ironman Lanzarote
- Compete for Team GB at ETU middle distance championship
- Improve my overall performance in every discipline and better myself
Who do you take your inspiration from?
My late grandma. My grandma was never a triathlete, however she was the most strong-minded person I have and will ever meet, it’s the reason I’m where I am today.
What do you like about Sundried and what’s your favourite bit of kit?
I’ve known about Sundried for a while now and used some of the kit, my favourite bit of kit is by far the long distance trisuit, the quality is second to none, however everything I have used from Sundried is made very well and feels great when training and racing
