Millie Williams - Athlete Ambassador
Have you always been into sport?
I’ve taken part in sport from a very young age, with the encouragement at primary school my passion grew, especially in running events, including Cross Country and Track where my focus was on steeplechase and longer distance racing.
How did you first get into triathlon?
In 2017 the Isle of Wight Triathlon Club began; my Dad is a keen triathlete and encouraged me to join. I already loved swimming and running, I was keen to get into cycling too.
If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
My favourite race to date is when I competed at Dorney Lake in September 2020. My first race of the year due to Covid 19, and my first experience in competing in an Olympic Distance Triathlon.
What is your proudest achievement?
My race at Dorney Lake for me had a personal goal, this was to achieve completing the Olympic Distance Triathlon in under 2hrs 40mins, this was so I could qualify in being a team member for the 2021 Island Games representing the Isle of Wight. I had a successful race, but sadly due to Covid 19 the Island Games were cancelled.
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
So far so good.
How do you overcome setbacks?
My setback being my confidence, a continual improvement that I know it will take time and patience. I am learning to tell myself that I can’t change what’s happened/ happening so to try and carry on with a positive mind set, to use the setbacks as experience and motivation to work harder.
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
Not to put too much pressure on myself and to enjoy every moment, no matter how hard I train, not every race will be as successful as I would like it to be. Success comes in time with hard work, patience and the ability to use every race as experience.
What are your goals?
In 2021 to compete in two GB team qualifiers, one Triathlon and one Duathlon. If I’m not successful this year, I will use these two events as experience and one day in the near future I hope to be successful in qualifying for team GB.
To also qualify for the Isle of Wight Island Games team in 2023 to compete in Guernsey.
Who inspires you?
Lucy Charles, my dad Sean, my personal coach Simon.
