Daniel Preece Athlete Ambassador
Daniel was once very overweight but turned his life around after discovering a passion for cycling and multi sport. He talks to Sundried about training and motivation.
Have you always been into sport?
No, I haven't always been into sport. I once weighed 18 stone. I turned to sport to turn my life around and became fully dedicated.
What made you decide to enter the world of duathlon?
I'm from a Cyclocross and MTB back ground so decided to carry my form into the the duathlon season.
What’s been your favourite race to date and why?
Mud and Mayhem has been my favourite race this season as it saw me get qualification for the European Duathlon Cross 2019 Championships in Romania.
And your proudest achievement?
Winning the Army Cyclocross championships 3 years in a row.
Have you ever had any racing disasters/your toughest race yet?
Coming off my bike coming into T2 coming down hard. With a 5k leg still to go. It was a case of stand up and be counted. Managed a 3rd place finish.
How do you overcome setbacks?
Having had both ACL reconstructed I overcame the set backs of injury and focussed on putting on my race numbers and getting back on the line as motivation.
What advice do you wish you'd been given before you started competing?
Winners focus on winning, losers focus on winners.
What are your goals for 2019?
To compete at the European Duathlon Cross championships and have a good race.
Who do you take your inspiration from?
My family inspire me daily to fully embrace life and live for today.
