Holly Dixon Athlete Ambassador
Holly started out as a gymnast before being inspired into triathlon by her cousins. She talks to Sundried about training and racing.
Have you always been into sport?
I’ve always been into sport! I started gymnastics at the age of 4 and competed at national and world level before starting triathlon.
What made you decide to enter the world of triathlon?
For me, sport has always been number one in my life. When I quit gymnastics after a back injury I wanted a new challenge. My cousins already did triathlon so I thought I would give it a whirl!
What’s been your favourite race to date and why?
My favourite race to date was the World Duathlon Championships this year in Denmark where I won my first world silver medal!
And your proudest achievement?
My proudest achievement was again winning a world silver medal.
Have you ever had any racing disasters/your toughest race yet?
I’ve had plenty but I always learn from them. This year while racing at the World Triathlon Championships I used a pair of goggles I had never used in a race before. They completely steamed up and I couldn’t see a thing! Set me back massively in the rankings.
How do you overcome setbacks?
I learn from my mistakes, get back to training and train even harder!
What advice do you wish you'd been given before you started competing?
Luckily my cousins gave me lots of great advice before starting however nothing can prepare you for how brutal racing is!
What are your goals for 2019?
In 2019 I would like to push beyond my limits and go for gold!
Who do you take your inspiration from?
I’m hugely inspired by other members of my triathlon and athletics clubs. And also by Flora Duffy because she’s an incredible triathlete.
What do you like about Sundried and what’s your favourite bit of our kit?
I think Sundried’s kit is awesome. Comfy to wear and looks great. I think the sports bras are especially comfy!
