Sandro Silva Athlete Ambassador
Sandro is a Portuguese athlete who has his sights set on a spot at the Ironman World Championships in Kona. He talks to Sundried about training and racing.
Have you always been into sport?
Yes, mostly mountain biking.
What made you decide to enter the world of triathlon?
In 2018, I was on holiday in Cascais, Portugal while the Ironman 70.3 was on. I watched it and decided I wanted to give it a try.
What’s been your favourite race to date and why?
Ironman 70.3 Cascais 2019.
And your proudest achievement?
Finishing 2nd Portuguese in my age group (25-29) at Ironman 70.3 Cascais, even though it was only my first time competing in an Ironman.
How do you overcome setbacks?
I'm always a positive guy. When I have setbacks, I try to breathe and think about the best way to overcome the obstacle.
What advice do you wish you'd been given before you started competing?
"Have fun dude".
What are your goals?
Finishing a full Ironman and earning a spot at the Ironman World Championships in Kona.
Who do you take your inspiration from?
My best inspiration comes from myself. To stay focused on my goals, I am always telling myself, "Believe in yourself. You can do it."
