George Hill Athlete Ambassador
George is a young triathlete who has competed at world level. He talks to Sundried about training and racing.
Have you always been into sport?
I have loved and participated in sport from a young age, doing competitive swimming and football at around 7 years old.
What made you decide to enter the world of triathlon?
I had stopped swimming at a high level for about 3 years and decided I missed the extremely competitive and rewarding feeling an individual sport offers. I entered my first triathlon in late 2017 and have been hooked from then on.
What's been your favourite race to date?
I was lucky enough to get to race in the 2018 Gold Coast U20 Age Group World Championships. Having only been in the sport for less than a year and to get to go to Australia to race for Great Britain was amazing. I got to watch the pro race a couple of days after mine and seeing Vicky Holland battle back on the run to take the World title was awesome.
And your proudest achievement?
My proudest achievement would probably be my first ever British super series event at the performance assessments 2019 coming 10th youth B.
What's been your toughest race?
My toughest race would have to have been at Blenheim Palace 2019, after struggling on the swim and losing more places on the hill up to transition I had to do the entire bike leg on my own which also cooked my legs for the run as well.
How do you overcome setbacks?
You're bound to feel frustrated when a setback like an injury interrupts your training, however it's important to stay positive and learn from it, using it as a way to make yourself an even better athlete by maybe putting more emphasis on strength work or activation exercises.
All the training takes time and consistency is key. There's no point training ridiculously hard one week only to have a poor week of training the next due to fatigue or injury.
What are your goals?
My main goal is to take my body to the limit of its physical potential and see how far that will get me in the sport.
Who is your inspiration?
Currently a big inspiration for me is cyclist Julian Alaphilippe. I love watching him ride a bike with such panache and see him put everything on the line during races.
Why work with Sundried?
