Apple Watch (Series 4)
To be honest, had I not received my Apple Watch through a Vitality life insurance promotion, I probably wouldn’t have bought one. Although, now I’ve had one for almost 6 months it’s proved its value. The health and activity tracking are top notch (I’m a sucker for stats and metrics) but I find it most useful while working out – timing rest periods, controlling my music, and monitoring my heart rate are all far more streamlined thanks to this smart watch.
Brilliant (Mobile App)
For a while, I had been playing sudoku during my commute in an effort to challenge my mind and stay sharp, though I speculated and later confirmed that these puzzles only train the mind within a specific type of logic… Enter the Brilliant app! Offering short courses on various maths and science topics that not only challenge my logic but allow me to learn tons of useful information and concepts too.
Water Purification (Distiller & Shower Filter)
We know that the body is between 60 to 70 percent water and recognise the importance of drinking water to stay hydrated. However, the quality of the water we consume and shower/bathe in (absorbed through the skin) is also of great importance. I have been using a water distiller for 6 months now, prior to that I was using a Berkey water filter and my shower is fitted with a Berkey chlorine filter – the method is less important than the goal; pure water for our body.
Sundried Training Vests
My Dom Tank (from Sundried's pilot collection) and Les Diablons Muscle Tank have a special place in my heart (and in my gym kit!) While they both probably need to be replaced, I’m having a tough time letting go since they have seen me through pivotal moments of my life. The Dom Tank was my introduction to Sundried’s ethical active wear, which mirrored my efforts to live more sustainably – I had recently turned plant-based (vegan). Fast forward a couple of years, both the Dom Tank and my newly acquired Les Diablons Tank were on rotation throughout my “training on a plant-based diet” experiment – proving that ethical gains are possible.
Bedtime (iPhone Clock App)
This little gem was sitting right under my nose for ages in the iPhone Clock app – Bedtime lets you specify when you need to wake up (sets an alarm), how many hours of sleep you need and then gives you a reminder when it’s time to hit the hay. While this may seem like an unnecessary aide for an adult, the combination of the reminder, visual interface and integration with my health tracking app has helped me to get adequate sleep more consistently, go to bed earlier and increase my morning productivity.
